Upgrades, not to be confused with updates (or virus and spyware definition updates), are updated versions of Microsoft Security Essentials. Whenever an updated version of Microsoft Security Essentials becomes available, you'll receive a notification that an upgrade to the program is available. To check for upgrades manually, on the Help menu, click Upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials.
