Limiting the number of messages

Depending on which modules and security checks you enable and the state of your network, a policy can generate a large number of messages. You can use the Policy Run wizard to specify a maximum number of messages that can be reported in a policy run.

If Symantec Enterprise Security Manager reaches the message limit, the last message has a red severity rating. It informs you that the maximum number has been reached and that other messages have not been reported.

To limit the number of messages reported in a policy run

  1. Specify more than one module to run in a policy.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Type a new value to change the Maximum policy run message count, and then click Next. The default value is 3000 messages.

    • Check the No message count limit check box, and then click Next.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Click Finish to start the policy run immediately.

    • Click Schedule to start the policy run at another time.
