Use the LiveUpdate Wizard to conveniently install new releases of Symantec ESM security updates, agent software upgrades, or best practice policies from the Internet, a product disc, or a network drive.
LiveUpdate checks for new Symantec ESM security updates. If an update is available, LiveUpdate downloads the security files to the ESM console. The ESM console distributes the security files to the managers. The managers make the updates available to the agents.
If the update contains an agent software upgrade, the upgrade must be initiated manually. Certain security considerations necessitate this setup.
Security updates and best practice policies are distributed automatically at the next policy run to updateable participating agents.
Symantec ESM always authenticates the LiveUpdate files on the manager and agent before it installs a security update.
During the installation of an ESM agent, you can choose to enable or disable LiveUpdate. If you choose to enable LiveUpdate, you can select the managers that distribute security update files to the agent.
You can enable or disable LiveUpdate on agents any time after installation. See Change Update Properties for instructions on performing this task.
