Hidden directories (UNIX)

This check looks for hidden directories in the user's home directory tree. A hidden directory is one that begins with a dot (.) character and does not appear in a typical directory listing. Although it is not very effective, users can try to hide information in hidden directories that they are not authorized to have. Use the file list to specify hidden directory names that should not be flagged by this check.

Title: Hidden directory

Description:The user has "hidden" directories in their home directory trees. A hidden directory is one that begins with a dot (.) character and does not appear on a normal directory listing. Although it is not very effective, users can try to hide information in hidden directories that they are not authorized to have. Examine the contents of these directories and take action when necessary. Hidden directories which are normal and expected can be specified in the file list and excluded from this check.
