About the Symantec ESM messages

Messages are reported by the checks that are present in the Symantec ESM modules. These messages are displayed in the grid on the ESM console.

A message contains the following attributes:

Name

Message names link the Symantec ESM code to the text of the message title and must not be changed.

Message names appear only in .m files and in uppercase.

Title

The message title is displayed in the console grid.

You can edit the message titles in .m files.

Text

The message text is displayed in a separate window of the summary report when you place the cursor on the Message field in the console grid.

You can edit message text in .m files.

Class

The class of a message indicates its severity.

A message can fall in one of the following classes:

  • Class 0

Displays green messages that require no action

  • Classes 1 to 3

Displays yellow messages that serve as a warning and need attention

  • Class 4

Displays red messages that need immediate attention

Some messages display a code in the Updatable/Correctable field of the console grid that identifies the message as template-updatable (TU) or snapshot-updatable (SU). You can click the code to update the template or snapshot file to match the current agent settings.

Some messages also display a code in the Updatable/Correctable field that identifies the message as correctable (C). You can click the code to reverse agent settings or disable a vulnerable account.

Most messages are reported in the console grid, though some common messages are reported in a separate window.
