To ensure that FPE is fully restarted, it is recommended that you stop and then restart all relevant Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Forefront Server Protection services.

To restart the services
  1. Open Services Control Manager.

    On Windows Server 2003, click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

  2. Stop all relevant Microsoft Exchange services. Typically, this includes the Microsoft Exchange Transport and Microsoft Exchange Information Store services.

  3. Stop all relevant Microsoft Forefront Server Protection services. Typically, this includes the Microsoft Forefront Server Protection Controller service.

  4. Wait for all services to complete shutting down.

  5. Optionally, use Task Manager to end any FPE processes that are still running.

  6. In Services Control Manager, start all relevant Microsoft Exchange services.

  7. Start all relevant Microsoft Forefront Server Protection services.
