For this procedure, you can use Services or the net command-line tool in Windows Server 2008 to stop and start the Forefront Identity Manager Service. By default, the Forefront Identity Manager Service is started during operating system boot and stopped during operating system shutdown. To perform this procedure, you must be logged on with an account that has stop and start service rights.

To stop and restart the FIM Synchronization Service using the Windows interface
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

  2. In Services, right-click Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service, then click Stop.

  3. To start, right-click Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service, and then click Start.

To stop and restart the FIM Synchronization Service using the command line
  1. Open a command prompt.

  2. Type: net [stop | start] FIMSynchronizationService

Value Description

stop

Stops the FIMSynchronizationService service

start

Starts the FIMSynchronizationService service

Note

When stopping the Forefront Identity Manager Service while a management agent is running, processing ends after the current processing batch is completed and any remaining processes are then released from memory. This is the same behavior that occurs when you click Stop in Management Agents.

Note

If you stop the service while deleting all connector space objects for a management agent, all objects will be deleted before stopping the service.
