For this procedure, in Metaverse Search, you can create a search query to search for objects in the metaverse. You can create complex search queries by combining multiple clauses. Search query clauses are joined using AND. To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the FIMSyncJoiners security group or the FIMSyncAdmins security group .

To create a metaverse search query
  1. On the Tools menu, click Metaverse Search.

  2. In Scope by Object Type, click an object type you want to include in the search query.

  3. In Collation, click the collation type you want to use in the search query.

  4. On the Actions menu, click Add clause.

  5. In the Attribute column, click an attribute you want to include in the search clause, and then in the Operator column, click the operator value, and then in the Value column, type the value you want to search for in the selected attribute.

  6. To add multiple clauses to be included in the search query, click Add clause and specify additional values for Attribute, Operator, and Value.

  7. Click Search.

Note

To increase performance of a metaverse search, keep the number of search clauses as minimum as possible. Indexing attributes can also improve Metaverse search performance. For more information, see See Also.

Note

If you are uncertain of the collation, leave the Collation setting at Default. The default collation is Latin1_General_CL_AS.

Note

By default, search results display the displayName attribute as the identifier for a metaverse object. If a metaverse object does not contain a displayName attribute, the globally unique identifier (GUID) is used as the object identifier. To add additional columns in Search Results, click Column Settings.

Note

If you have performed a search, but you do not see a populated list in Search Results, you might need to configure additional columns so that they appear in Search Results. For more information about configuring Search Results columns, see See Also.
