For this procedure, you can export a Microsoft® Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 server configuration to file. A server configuration includes all management agents and the metaverse configuration. This can be helpful when you want to export a known-good server configuration that you want to use for emergency recovery or to import to another server. To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the FIMSyncAdmins security group.

To export server configuration to file
  1. On the File menu, click Export Server Configuration.

  2. In Browse for folder, select the location for the export files.

Important

When you export a server configuration to file, for management agents, FIM does not save the associated connector space and connector space objects. In addition, any associated rules extensions and run scripts are not exported to file. It is recommended that you save these files in a separate folder from the exported server configuration.

Important

The FIM 2010 Synchronization Service account must have read/write permissions to the target folder or file when exporting a server configuration.

Note

Server configuration is exported as a set of read-only files in XML format. The server configuration is always named Mv.xml. Each management agent is exported as a separate file with a globally unique identifier (GUID) as its name. You can only export one server configuration (and its management agents) to the same location. To export more than one server configuration, you must create a separate file location for each export.

Note

When you export a server configuration to file, for management agents, FIM does not save template input files or custom data input files from the connected data source. To keep your template input file or custom data input files, manually save them in the same location as the exported server configuration files.

Note

You can also use the command-line tool, Srvexport, to export a server configuration to file. For more information, see See Also.
