Domain Name System (DNS) is a TCP/IP naming resolution protocol that simplifies the process of connecting to hosts in complex networks, such as the Internet. A DNS server stores information that enables client computers to translate memorable, alphanumeric DNS names to IP addresses, which computers use to communicate with each other.
For example, most users prefer a friendly name, such as example.microsoft.com, to access a computer, such as a mail server or Web server on a network.
