Filter Development Process

The filter development process is described here in general terms. For more specific information, review the procedure in How to Create an Application Filter. In describing this process, use of the Visual Studio Active Template Library (ATL) is assumed and recommendedbecause it handles much routine work for the project.

Application filters typically require these procedures:

• Create the necessary COM objects Typically, these are the filter object, session filter object, and data filter object.
• Monitor events
• Attach the filter to a session
• Process data
• Provide code to register and unregister the filter
• Installation

Note  Filters must be registered as COM servers and in the ISA configuration.
