MIISDCInfo

MIISDCInfo retrieves and displays the domain controller configuration details of a given host in that domain, or other domains in the forest, including domain controller name for that domain, IP address, and forest name.

MIIS DCInfo

Input fields

Field Description
Target DC Type the target domain controller name whose configuration details are to be retrieved and displayed. MIISDCInfo gets the domain controller configuration details of the given Target DC. If Target DC is not specified, that is, if the field is left blank, then MIISDCInfo gets the configuration details of the domain controller for the local system's domain. The Target DC can be in DNS or IP format.
Directory Partition Type the domain name or application partition name to search for the Target DC. Directory partition can be either a DNS style name, that is, fabrikam.com, or a NetBIOS name, that is, Fabrikam. If a DNS style name is specified, the name can be specified with or without a trailing period.

Note

  • If the DC Type selected is GC, the directory partition specified must be the name of the forest. MIISDCInfo displays an error message if the specified directory partition is not the forest root.

If a directory partition is not specified, that is, if the field is left blank, and the DC Type selected is GC, MIISDCInfo attempts to find a global catalog server in the forest of the local system, and sets the Target DC field to the default domain name of the primary domain of the local system.

DC Type Select the type of domain controller to search for. The possible values are:
  • Any:
Select this option to search for any domain controller type.
  • PDC:
Select this option to search the directory partition or the primary domain of the Target DC for a primary domain controller. If no values are specified for Directory Partition and Target DC, then MIISDCInfo searches for the PDC in the domain of the local system.
  • KDC:
Select this option to search the directory partition or the primary domain of the Target DC for a Kerberos Key Distribution Center server. If no values are specified for the Directory Partition and the Target DC, then MIISDCInfo searches for the KDC in domain of the local system.
  • GC:
Select this option to search for a global catalog server of the forest with this domain as the root. If GC is selected and a directory partition is specified, then Directory Partition must specify a forest root.
Avoid Self Select this option to find a domain controller other than the domain controller named in the Target DC field. If the Target DC is not a domain controller, then this is ignored.
Force Rediscovery Select this option to ignore the cached domain controller data and initiate a new search for the domain controller. This can be used when an additional domain controller becomes available or when a domain controller has previously been detected as unavailable. When this is not selected, MIISDCInfo might return cached domain controller data. This option is normally not used and should only be used if a previous attempt without this flag has failed.
Flat Name Select this option to retrieve and display the domain controller and domain name in a flat, or NetBIOS, format. If this option is not selected, those fields are displayed in DNS format.

DC configuration details

Field Description
Name The domain controller name of the specified Target DC or directory partition is displayed here. If the domain is a Windows NT® 4.0 domain, does not support the IP family of protocols, or if Flat Name is selected, then the name is displayed as a flat name. Otherwise, it is displayed in DNS format.
IP Address Displays the IP address of the domain controller.
Domain The domain name is displayed as a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), for example, fabrikam.com. If the Flat Name check box is selected, the domain name is displayed in a flat form, for example FABRIKAM.
Forest Displays the forest name of the given Target DC or Directory Partition as a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), for example, fabrikam.com. If the Flat Name check box is selected, the domain name is displayed in a flat form, for example FABRIKAM.
Site Displays the name of the domain site where the domain controller is located. This can be blank if the domain controller is not in a site, for example, if the domain controller is a Windows NT® 4.0 domain controller.
Client site Displays the domain client site name of the site that the computer belongs to. This can be blank if the site that contains the computer cannot be found, for example, if the DNS administrator has not associated the subnet that the computer is in with a valid site.
