Forefront Protection Manager includes a centralized management console that enables administrators to deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint (FPSP) on multiple SharePoint servers. To deploy group policies and manage multiple instances of FPSP, you must use Forefront Protection Manager.

To install and manage the product in a multiple SharePoint server environment
  1. Install each instance of FPSP individually. For more information about installing FPSP, see Installing the product.

  2. On each SharePoint server running FPSP, manually install the Forefront Protection Manager monitoring features (Forefront Protection Manager agent and Operations Manager agent) so that Forefront Protection Manager can successfully communicate with FPSP. For more information, see "Deploying Forefront Protection Manager monitoring features to FPSP" in Integrating Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint with Forefront Protection Manager.

  3. Using the Forefront Protection Manager console, create groups that include one or more instances of FPSP, create policies for FPSP, and then deploy those policies to the groups. For more information about working with groups and policies, see Working with groups and policies in the Stirling Operations Guide.
