You can use Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint (FPSP) to help combat malware in your SharePoint environment. Malware is comprised of viruses and spyware. Viruses infect other programs and data, and they spread throughout your computer looking for programs to infect. Spyware usually refers to any non-viral malware that pretends to be something it is not, such as games or screensavers. Spyware spies on you, gathering personal information (such as logon data) that it sends back to its installer.
FPSP enables you to configure the following antimalware scanning options:
- Realtime—Scans, in real time, files
that reside in folders on your SharePoint server. For information,
see Scanning
sites for malware in real time.
- Scheduled—Similar to realtime
scanning, scanning occurs in the database store. Scheduled
antivirus scans are typically used to go deep into your system,
forgoing system performance, in order to scan a wide range of
files. For information, see Scheduling malware
scanning.
- On-demand—Similar to realtime and
scheduled scanning, on-demand antivirus scans are typically used to
scan specific sites to localize a known issue. For more
information, see Scanning specific sites
for malware on demand.
