A data filter object is a COM object that implements the IFWXDataFilter interface. The names of data filter objects typically include the word combination DataFilter. In response to a notification from the Microsoft Firewall service about a network event, a session filter object may create an instance of the data filter object for a specific connection. When an instance of a data filter object is attached to a connection, the Firewall service responds by providing an internal and an external socket, and the filter can perform alternate or two-way data pumping between the two sockets for the connection. A data filter object can allow secondary connections.
