Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) provides a default portal and login pages to authenticate users. When you use Forefront UAG to provide mobile browsing you are able to provide a method for mobile users to access corporate resources from unmanaged mobile devices, without the need to create platform specific applications for each mobile device. The Forefront UAG portal provides end users with the following functionality:
- Browsing applications that are published by
the administrator.
- Searching for applications that are published
by the administrator.
- Starting applications that are published by
the administrator.
By default, Forefront UAG provides two front end portals to allow a wide range of mobile devices to access the applications that are published by the administrator. These mobile device portals are in addition to the two portals that are available for non-mobile users.
The mobile portals correspond to the following groups of mobile devices:
- Premium mobile—Smartphones such as
mobile devices running Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile or
the Apple iPhone.
- Non-premium mobile—Other mobile
devices.
You can customize the portal to allow non-premium mobile devices access to the premium mobile portal. For information, see Customizing the detection module. The main requirements to allow a mobile device to show the premium mobile portal are:
- Support for AJAX.
- Support for pages with large numbers of
graphics files.

When deciding which portal to provide to users, you should also consider that the premium mobile portal has higher network usage costs. |
