When you configure the Forefront UAG DirectAccess Configuration Wizard, the wizard identifies if the Forefront UAG server is currently configured in an array. Forefront UAG is considered to be an in an array when there is one array manager server and at least one member joined to the array. When the wizard identifies that a Forefront UAG array exists, the load balancing page appears enabling you to select a method for Network Load Balancing (NLB). This topic describes how to select the appropriate NLB method.
Forefront UAG DirectAccess supports two methods of load balancing:
- Windows Network Load
Balancing—Integrates the NLB functionality provided by Windows
Server 2008 R2 with additional functionality provided by
Forefront UAG, enabling the load balancing of Forefront UAG
DirectAccess servers.
- External Load Balancing—Uses an
external load balancing solution that enables the load balancing of
Forefront UAG DirectAccess servers.
To select the method of load balancing
-
From the Forefront UAG DirectAccess Configuration Wizard, under Step 2, in DirectAccess Server, click Configure. If a Forefront UAG array is already configured, the load balancing page appears.
-
Select the load balancing method to use, and then click Next. The Connectivity page appears.
Note: The Forefront UAG DirectAccess Configuration Wizard checks that all prerequisites for the selected NLB method have been met. If all the prerequisites have not been met, follow the actions described in the error messages, and then click Next. Important: Install the Windows NLB Hotfix (KB977342) (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=178582), on all Forefront UAG DirectAccess array members to provide ISATAP connectivity when integrated Windows Network Load Balancing is configured.
