If you access applications that are published through a Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) portal that run only when the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components are installed on your computer, you must download and install the components. This topic describes how to install the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components using an installation file.

If you do not have ActiveX download rights on Windows Internet Explorer, and you are a non-privileged user, you can use a downloadable installation file to install the endpoint components. In this setup, you must run the installer as the administrator, or the administrator must log in to your endpoint computer and install the components before you access the Forefront UAG portal.

Installing Forefront UAG Endpoint Components using an installation file

After the administrator has provided an installation file, you can install the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components in unattended or interactive mode:

Note:
During component installation, you should not access the portal home page or any other location in the site. If the installation detects that Forefront UAG Endpoint Components are already installed on the computer, it upgrades the components from earlier versions, even if their installation is not enabled in the current installation configuration.
Note:
The .msi file must be run with administrator privileges on the client endpoint.

To install Forefront UAG Endpoint Components using an installation file

  1. Obtain the relevant installer file from your administrator.

  2. To install the components in interactive mode on the client endpoint, double-click the installer file, or right-click the installer file and click Run as administrator.

The Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installation wizard starts. You can follow the instructions to complete the wizard and install the components on their client endpoints.

  3. To install the components in unattended mode on the client endpoint, at an elevated command prompt on the endpoint, run the following command:

    <Installer_file> /qn

where <Installer_file> is the name of one of the installer files. For example, to install all of the client components, run the following command:

    WhlClientSetup-All.msi /qn

    Note:
In unattended mode, no user interaction is required. When you use this deployment method, you cannot do a custom installation nor select which of the components you want to install.
