To enable Network Load Balancing for a network (Enterprise Edition)

ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition only

In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click Networks:
- Expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, expand Array_Name, expand Configuration, and then click Networks.
In the details pane, click the Networks tab, and then select the applicable network.
On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Network.
On the NLB tab, select Enable load balancing on this network.
In Virtual IP, type a virtual IP address to use for this network.
In Mask, type the 32-bit value for the subnet mask of the specified virtual IP address.

Note

To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.

Important

To disable Network Load Balancing for a network, do the following:
1. Select the applicable network.
2. On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Network.
3. On the NLB tab, clear the Enable load balancing on this network check box.
Integrated Network Load Balancing (NLB) mode must be enabled to configure NLB for a network. For instructions, see Enable Network Load Balancing integration (Enterprise Edition).
Network Load Balancing cannot be configured for enterprise-level networks and for the following default array-level networks: Local Host, Quarantined VPN Clients, and VPN Clients.
Network Load Balancing should be enabled for the External network only if the external network adapters of the array are directly connected to the Internet, but not if they access the Internet through another network.
When a virtual IP address is configured for a network, ISA Server adds the specified IP address to a network adapter on each server, and updates the routing table for that network adapter accordingly.
The combination of the virtual IP address and mask must yield the same subnet as the combination of the IP address and mask of the adapter in the network. The virtual IP address must belong to the network.
