After you've developed an application filter, you will want to test it in a laboratory setting. To do this, configure the lab to represent a network/ISA-server/Internet situation:
Three computers are required to test application filters. One computer functions as the ISA server. This computer must have two network interface cards (NICs). Connect one card to a computer representing the internal client and the other to a computer representing the Internet.
The specific lab requirements will depend on the type of filter you are testing. For an example of a specific test setup and procedure, see SMTPFLTR Test Environment.
