About Enterprise Licensing

The Symantec Enterprise Licensing feature lets you obtain and distribute licenses for Enterprise Security Manager. Enterprise Licensing also provides you with the tools that let you install the licenses and distribute licenses among the ESM managers.

Following are the features of Enterprise Licensing:

Determines which version of a product has been licensed. After you obtain a license for a particular version, the versions earlier than the licensed version are enabled.
Determines the period for which the license is valid.
Assigns the amount of usage for a particular operation using Meter Count.
Includes trial licenses.

You can add licenses when you install the ESM console or obtain from the licensing Web site.

Following are the types of licenses that Enterprise Licensing provides:
- Permanent license
- Temporary license

When you assign an enterprise license to a manager, Symantec ESM overwrites any old licenses that are installed on the managers with the new one.

You can use the permanent licenses for a particular computer by specifying the host identification number. The temporary licenses are not specific to a computer and have a start and an end date. You can install a temporary license only within the period of 365 days before its end date.
